In *Garment*, Asha Thomas takes New Orleans as her starting point – a city where the legacies of the American South, the Caribbean and West Africa converge.
On stage, accompanied by a musician, she explores what is conveyed and transformed through gestures, rhythms and postures. Whilst some of these forms appear to echo one another from one region to another, their respective journeys have also shaped them differently over time. ‘Garment’ refers to what is worn, slipped on and layered, like so many layers of memory. Between dance and music, her body becomes the place where these legacies settle, shift and are recomposed.
